HEATING CABLE - TYPES

Heating cables are resistance wires covered with a protective coating, they differ in construction, materials and purpose. We distinguish between constant power heating cables, heating cables with a thermostat and self-regulating ones. They are intended for indoor use, and reinforced - can be used outdoors. The reinforced cable is insulated with plastics, e.g. silicone. Each heating cable is responsible for maintaining the temperature of the heated element at the appropriate level.

Heating cable with thermostat

Heating cables with a thermostat are used as frost protection - to protect pipes, pipelines, valves. The heating cable can be installed in several ways. One of the easiest ways is to attach it to the surface of the pipe, where the cable should be wrapped around it, or secured along the entire length of the pipe with glue, clips or holders. The heating cables may be terminated with a hermetic connector.

It is worth protecting the plumbing system against low temperatures, because frozen water can block the flow and even damage the pipe or connection. Cold winter temperatures can be dangerous to pipes and valves. Bringing to an emergency, where there is a break in the supply of water or other medium, is costly and uncomfortable for the residents. Interruptions in the supply of heating or water and the possibility of its re-availability only after several hours, is often dangerous due to the lack of heating, very low temperatures or loss of the machine cooling system.

The heating cable with a thermostat also allows to protect other surfaces, such as gutters, floors, stairs, frames or walls.

Underfloor heating

The heating cable is mounted in the ground. The floor is placed on top according to customer preferences (tiles, panels, etc.). Then the power supply is connected to the installation. For both the cable and the mat, we recommended a control unit for underfloor heating system (GK-CNTR1001) and a panel for underfloor heating controller (GK-CNTR1000). The set allows you to easily control the temperature. This product is easy to use.

Ground frost protection

The heating cable is installed between the cooling chamber and the ground, on which the chamber is placed. This protects the ground against freezing, which also protects the floor in the cold store and its entire structure.

Pipe protection

The heating cable is used to protect pipes and valves against freezing. It can be used even in large installations. A large pipeline, pipes with normal diameter, small pipes - all these elements, apart from their own insulation, i.e. polyethylene foam, need additional protection, when they are exposed to negative temperatures. The heating cable is perfect for this role - protecting water pipes.

The heating cable can be inside the pipe or outside. Then the easiest way to get a good place is to wrap the wire around the pipe.

Protection of gutters and roofs

The heating cable is also used to protect gutters and roofs against ice and snow. Mounting the heating cable on the gutter is an easy way to get rid of sagging icicles and unblock the flow. In this way, we increase the safety of people and things next to the building.

Heating driveways

The heating cable is also installed on driveways in front of garages, buildings and other objects. Such use of the heating cable protects a given section of the road against freezing, while at the same time getting rid of snow and ice from it. This relieves us or our employees of the tasks related to snow removal from the access to the property or road fragment

Elimination of thermal bridges

Heating cables are used not only to protect pipes and underfloor heating. They are also used to eliminate condensate in thermal bridges in buildings and various devices. In the case of thermal bridges in rooms, the cable with the thermostat is installed under the plaster layer. It is invisible and does not spoil the aesthetics of the room. By heating the structure, we eliminate moisture and prevent the growth of mold in corners, behind furniture and other sensitive places.

The use of heating cables in devices, in order to eliminate thermal bridges is closely related to the use of various types of profiles. Heating cable length

The length of the heating cable is closely related to the place where it will be used. The advantage of many models of silicone cables is the possibility of choosing a cable spool of a specific length (100, 250, 400 or 500 m) or cutting to the indicated length of the heating cable in accordance with the guidelines. For antifreeze heating cables with thermostat, shorter lengths are available (e.g. 1 m + 1 m, 2 m + 1 m, 4 m + 1 m).

The wires in the spool have contact points every 500 mm, so they may only be cut in these points. Cutting the cable in the wrong place will damage it.

The length of the power cord and the working length, i.e. the cold and heating part, may differ from model to model. However, it's possible to specify the length of the power cord.

An example of an antifreeze heating cable with thermostat a 2 m + 1 m has a 2 m heating section and a 1 m cold section.

Insulation thickness

Heating cables with and without a built-in thermostat, differ from each other in cable diameter and insulation thickness. Thicker insulation allows the cable to be used outside of livestock, industrial and gastronomic buildings.
