A polycarbonate gastronorm container in the GN 1/9 size measures 176 × 108 mm, is 65 mm high and holds 0.5 l. The transparent body lets you assess the stock level at a glance, which for toppings replaced several times per shift saves a good number of movements.
Half a litre in a transparent vessel has another advantage: you can see not only how much but also what is left. At a station with a dozen or so inserts, there is no need to lift or open them to plan a top-up before the rush.
Polycarbonate is harder than polypropylene and better withstands a fall from a worktop, but reacts worse to strongly alkaline cleaning agents. For machine washing it is worth sticking to programmes intended for plastics.

In transparency and hardness. For the smallest inserts, the greatest value is that the contents are visible through the wall, so topping up is planned ahead of time.
Is the container suitable for a freezer?
Polycarbonate works at sub-zero temperatures, so storing frozen products is possible. The vessel is then not filled right up to the rim, since the contents expand in volume.
Will the transparency last after many washes?
It depends on the chemistry, strongly alkaline agents dull the surface over time and cause fine scratches. With detergents intended for plastics, the container stays clear for much longer.
