Gastronorm container 176x162x100 mm (stainless steel) KZ-GN1610 – how to choose the right one

The KZ-GN1610 Gastronorm container has a GN 1/6 format measuring 176 × 162 mm and a depth of 100 mm, giving 1.6 l. It is one of the most commonly used sizes on the serving line, where one well serves several menu items at once.

One hundred millimetres at this footprint creates a vessel with a balanced proportion: the layer of product is thick enough to hold temperature, and shallow enough to scoop from with a spoon without effort.

A litre and a half or so is usually one top-up of the station in the middle of the service. For items that run out faster, it is better to keep two such containers in rotation than to reach for one deeper one – product at the bottom of a tall well cools more slowly and gets used up later.

What the GN sizes mean and how to choose the depth – we explained it in the selection guide for this category.

Where it works

  • Dishes in sauce served from a multi-section bain-marie
  • Warm side dishes at a breakfast buffet
  • Cooked vegetables kept in a water bath
  • Topping up a station during service, without replacing the whole well

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Have not found your answer? Give the GN size and the intended use – we will select the containers.

Ask a question
What is the difference in capacity between 65, 100, 150 and 200 mm in GN 1/6?

In order: 1.0 l, 1.6 l, 2.4 l and 3.4 l. The footprint stays the same, so the choice comes down to how much product should be used up between refills.

Will the container fit in every bain-marie for GN 1/1?

The footprint yes, because 1/6 is part of the division of the 1/1 field. What needs checking is the depth of the well – a container 100 mm high has to fit in it together with the layer of water.

Is the same container suitable for the oven?

Yes, stainless steel withstands heat processing. It is convenient that after removal from the oven the vessel goes straight to the bain-marie, without the contents being transferred.
