The GN 1/6 polypropylene food pan measures 176 × 162 mm, is 100 mm high and holds 1.6 l. This depth holds stock for a longer stretch of work, while a spoon still reaches the bottom easily.
At 1.6 l a station does not need topping up every half hour, which at the peak of service matters more than capacity alone. The cook swaps the container when there is a moment to spare, not when the ingredient suddenly runs out.
The clear body lets you see the contents from the side, and the permanent labels can be written on with an ordinary marker – useful when the container goes into the cold room overnight.

With a topping portion of around 80 ml, that comes to roughly twenty portions, counting a fill level a few millimetres below the rim. For larger servings it is worth reckoning realistically with 80 percent of the nominal capacity.
Does a lid with a ladle notch fit this container?
A ladle notch makes sense for sauces in a bain-marie, where the ladle stays in the vessel. The lid size is always GN 1/6, so it is chosen by footprint, and the notched or plain variant by the way the item is served.
Is polypropylene suitable for a commercial dishwasher?
Yes, with standard washing programmes. With the hottest scalding cycles, thinner walls can deform at the edge over time, so plastic containers are arranged in the basket so they do not stand on each other under pressure.
