A polycarbonate GN 1/6 gastronorm container has a footprint of 176 × 162 mm, a height of 100 mm and a capacity of 1.6 l. This combination of size and depth is the standard setting in salad prep units, and the transparent body adds stock control to it without lifting the vessel.
Visible contents shorten the round of checking a station before service. Instead of opening a dozen or so inserts, you run your eyes along the row of containers and top up only the ones where the level has dropped below half.
A harder wall than polypropylene matters in places where the vessel goes back into the dishwasher basket every day and gets dropped from time to time. Polycarbonate tends to bounce off the floor rather than crack.

Ask a questionWhy does the polycarbonate version have a different capacity than the polypropylene one?
In this size both hold 1.6 l, but at other depths the catalogue values can differ by a few tenths of a litre. This comes from the wall thickness and the radius of the rounding at the bottom, not from a different outer dimension.
Does transparency make checking dates and rotation easier?
Indirectly yes, since the state of the product is visible, but the dates still have to be written on a label. The transparent wall shows how much is left and what the contents look like, not when they went into the cold room.
Will the vessel withstand washing in a dishwasher with scalding?
Standard washing cycles are not a problem, but prolonged scalding at extreme temperatures dulls the surface over time. For plastic containers, gentler programmes are chosen than for steel.
