Gastronorm container 176x162x65 mm (polypropylene) KZ-GNP16065 – how to choose the right one

A polypropylene GN 1/6 container has a footprint of 176 × 162 mm, a depth of 65 mm and a capacity of 1.0 l. With this ratio of width to height, the ingredient lies in a layer rather than a column, so it is easy to pick up with tongs and you can see how much is left.

A litre in a flat vessel cools faster than a litre in a tall one, since the surface releasing heat is larger. For products coming back from hot processing that need to go into the cold room, this difference shortens the time spent passing through the range in which they should not sit.

A shallow GN 1/6 also works well as a display vessel in a counter, the layer is only a few centimetres, so the product is fully visible from above without needing to peer inside.

What the GN sizes mean and how to choose the depth – we explained it in the selection guide for this category.

Where it works

  • Topping inserts in a refrigerated counter or a sandwich buffet
  • Quick cooling of small batches of cooked ingredient
  • A multi-section salad prep unit at a burger station
  • Portioned ingredients in an under-counter refrigerator

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Have not found your answer? Give the GN size and the intended use – we will select the containers.

Ask a question
How does this version differ from a GN 1/6 at 100 mm height?

Only in depth and what follows from it: 65 mm gives 1.0 l, and 100 mm gives 1.6 l, with an identical 176 × 162 mm footprint. The shallower one cools faster and empties more easily, the deeper one needs topping up less often.

Can the container be put into a freezer?

Polypropylene withstands frost, so storage at low temperature is not a problem. It is just worth leaving some spare volume, since products with a high water content expand in volume when they freeze.

Do containers of this size nest inside one another?

Empty ones nest inside each other and take up little space on a rack. Stacking full ones needs the KZ-GNP16 lid, without it the edge of the upper container rests on the contents of the lower one.
