In brief

  • A 265 x 162 mm footprint is a GN 1/4 well, and a 200 mm height gives 5.5 l capacity.
  • One container like this replaces two 100 mm-deep containers of the same footprint.
  • The tall shape uses the clearance between shelves that flat containers leave unused.
  • Stainless steel does not absorb odours, so the container can circulate between different products.

Gastronorm container 265x162x200 mm (stainless steel) KZ-GN1420 S – how to choose the right one

A stainless steel GN 1/4 container with a 265 x 162 mm footprint and 200 mm depth holds 5.5 l. This is a back-of-house storage container: it holds the reserve of one ingredient while taking up a quarter of a shelf's area in the GN standard.

The deep format changes how the product is handled. It is not ladled straight onto a plate; instead, a working portion is measured out into a smaller container, so the main reserve is opened rarely and stays out of the cold store only briefly.

This split into a reserve container and a working one suits ingredients used daily in similar amounts - from stock, through roux, to grated cheese. The reserve is prepared once, and the station is topped up as needed.

What the GN sizes mean and how to choose the depth – we explained it in the selection guide for this category.

Where it works

  • A reserve of stock and base sauce in the back-of-house cold store
  • Storing grated cheese and breadcrumbs in bulk
  • A bulk container for products collected from production
  • Storing pickles and brines under cover

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Have not found your answer? Give the GN size and the intended use – we will select the containers.

Ask a question
Can a full container be safely lifted from a top shelf?

At five litres, it is better avoided - a reserve in this format is set at waist height or lower, so lifting it does not happen with hands above head height.

How many containers fit on one GN 1/1 shelf level?

Four, in a two-by-two layout. Together that gives 22 litres of reserve on one level, with each container lifted out separately.

Is steel suitable for fatty products?

Yes, and in this respect it does better than plastic - the surface does not dull from grease and does not hold onto smells after frying, provided the container is washed at a high temperature.
