Does the lid fit plastic containers?
Yes, as long as they have a GN 1/4 footprint. The standard describes the dimensions, so a steel lid also fits polycarbonate and polypropylene containers of this size.
Can the lid be heated together with the contents?
Steel withstands it, but it heats up together with the container and, once taken out of the oven, is hot across its whole surface. It is then removed with an oven glove or a cloth.
