Lid for a gastronorm container 265x162 mm (polycarbonate) KZ-GNT14 – how to choose the right one

The lid for GN 1/4 gastronorm containers has a footprint of 265 × 162 mm and is made of transparent polycarbonate. A quarter module is the basic load unit in catering, and the closed vessel travels to the venue and is only uncovered at the point of service.

During transport, the transparent panel simplifies checking the load. A crate or trolley is checked from above, counting items by their contents rather than by labels, which in a hurry no one gets round to writing anyway.

After returning from a job, the same lid lets you judge how much of the load is left before the vessels go down to the dishwashing room. The catering job is then reconciled right at the trolley, not after unpacking everything onto the worktop.

What the GN sizes mean and how to choose the depth – we explained it in the selection guide for this category.

Where it works

  • Catering jobs where the load travels in quarter modules
  • Checking a trolley's load by contents, not by labels
  • Closing buffet vessels between services
  • Reconciling returns after a job without unpacking the load

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Have not found your answer? Give the GN size and the intended use – we will select the containers.

Ask a question
Will the lid stay on the vessel while being moved?

It fits over the rim and stays in place during gentle travel over a flat surface. When transporting liquids, the vessel is filled to no more than three-quarters of its height, since the closure is not airtight.

Will the transparent panel take a second container placed on top of it?

The weight is carried by the rim of the container standing below, not by the centre of the panel, so two levels are a typical situation. Tall towers of full containers are best not built, whatever the material.

Will a cold lid not crack once it is taken out of the freezer room?

Polycarbonate works at sub-zero temperatures, but a chilled panel is more sensitive to impact. After it is taken out of the freezer room it is worth removing it calmly, without prising up an edge that has frozen on.
