A stainless steel lid for a GN 2/4 Gastronorm container, measuring 530 × 162 mm. A rigid closure for the narrow format used in bain-maries, cold rooms and transport trolleys.
In machine washing, length is sometimes this size's only problem. Half a metre doesn't fit straight in a 500 × 500 mm basket, so the lid is placed diagonally or washed in an open basket, together with containers of the same length.
In the back of house, it's worth keeping narrow lids in one compartment with 2/4 containers. Since this size has no equivalent among the full formats, hunting for it in a general stack takes longer than actually closing the container.

In a typical 500 × 500 mm basket, it fits placed diagonally, the same as containers of the same length. It's more convenient to wash it together with them, in one cycle.
Which GN sizes have the same width?
The 162 mm dimension recurs in the 2/4, 1/4 and 1/6 fields. This doesn't mean the lids are interchangeable – these formats differ in length.
Will a closed 2/4 container support another identical one?
With a rigid lid, yes, the weight then rests on the rim of the bottom container. With a narrow footprint, though, it's worth making sure the stack stands level and isn't too tall.
