The GN 1/1 lid measuring 530 × 325 mm closes a container occupying a full gastronorm module. This is a size used for transporting large loads, one vessel, one lid, a whole level of the trolley.

Not under its own weight, but when lifted by one corner, the panel flexes. A grip on the shorter edge or on two opposite sides solves the problem.
Can a second identical container be placed on top of a closed GN 1/1?
Yes, the weight is carried through the rim of the container underneath. With full vessels it is worth limiting yourself to two levels, since the mass grows very quickly here.
Is a separate lid needed for the steel version?
No, if the container is in the same GN 1/1 module, the lid rests on an edge measuring 530 × 325 mm regardless of the vessel's material.
