In brief

  • The GK-SPG-R is a constant resistance cable: the catalogue gives the resistance, not the output per metre.
  • The resistance covers a huge range – from 1 to 810 Ω/m.
  • The diameter of the braidless cable is Ø3.0 mm, that is less than in the constant wattage versions.
  • The temperature window of -60°C / +200°C is the same as in the constant wattage cables.

Silicone heating cable, round, constant resistance (without braid) – various models GK-SPG-R – how to choose the right one

The GK-SPG-R silicone heating cable has a constant resistance within the 1–810 Ω/m range, a diameter of Ø3.0 mm and works at temperatures from -60°C to +200°C. The supply falls within very wide limits of 1.5–400 V.

Constant resistance cables are selected differently from the rest: the starting point is the resistance per metre and the length of the run, and the output follows only from the voltage it will be fed with. That is why the data sheet does not give a value in watts per metre.

A resistance spread from 1 to 810 Ω/m and voltages from 1.5 V upwards opens up applications beyond refrigeration alone – including equipment supplied at low voltage, where a ready-made constant wattage cable does not fit at all.

How to choose the type of heater and the power per metre – we explained it in the selection guide for this category.

Where it works

  • Heated sections designed for a specific supply voltage
  • Low-voltage circuits, including those of a few volts
  • Designs with limited space, where the Ø3.0 mm diameter matters
  • Prototypes and production runs in which the output is set by the designer, not by the catalogue

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Have not found your answer? Give the length and where it will be routed – we will select the type of heater and the power.

Ask a question
Why does the data sheet not give an output in W/m?

Because in a constant resistance cable the output is not a property of the cable itself. It follows from the resistance used, the length of the run and the voltage it is fed with – and those three things are set by the design of the installation.

How does it differ from the GK-SPG-RO version?

In the braid and the diameter. The braidless version is Ø3.0 mm, the steel-braided version Ø3.7 mm; the electrical parameters remain the same.
