Ball catch ZT-1 – how to choose the right one
ZT-1 is a ball catch in chrome-plated brass, fitted with two chrome-plated steel balls. The leaf is held by the resistance of the sprung balls, and a pull on the handle is enough to open it.
Spreading the resistance over two balls changes the character of the action. The leaf catches more evenly and sits askew less often than with a single point of engagement, which shows up especially where someone closes the door on the move, one-handed.

The resistance is spread over two points, so the leaf settles parallel and twists less during closing. With a single point it is easier to end up with one edge already caught while the other still stands proud.
How does ZT-1 differ from the other indexes in the series?
The manufacturer describes all four identically – chrome-plated brass and two steel balls. The differences come down to a version the data sheet does not spell out, so a specific symbol is quoted when ordering.
Does the chrome coating wear off?
The chrome works on the surface the balls travel over, so a mark becomes visible on it in time. That is not a fault as long as the leaf catches firmly and does not stand proud once closed.
