Magnetic catch ZT-LM5103 – how to choose the right one
ZT-LM5103 is a magnetic catch in a housing of nickel-plated ZnAl alloy. The cast body is rigid along its whole length, so it does not deform when the mounting screws are tightened hard.
That rigidity has a practical bearing on adjustment. If the fitting has to be moved by a millimetre for the front to sit square, the body keeps its geometry and the setting does not have to be repeated after a week in service.
A nickel-plated finish is worth considering on units where several fittings are visible at once. Set against a handle or a hinge in the same shade it looks coherent, which cannot be said of a mixture of plastic and metal.

It is an alloy of zinc and aluminium from which fitting bodies are cast. It gives a rigid part with a smooth surface, cheaper to produce than brass and heavier than plastic.
Does a nickel-plated body corrode?
The nickel coating protects the casting against tarnish as long as it stays continuous. A deep scratch exposes the material underneath and discoloration can appear there.
