Hood ventilation valve (black polypropylene) KP-DA1 – how to choose the right one
The KP-DA1 ventilation valve in black polypropylene is fitted in catering hoods to regulate the air supply. It allows the volume and direction of the air delivered into the kitchen to be set, which translates directly into working comfort at the cooking station.
A hood extracts more air from the room than will flow in on its own through gaps. If that difference is not made up by the supply air, the air is drawn from the dining room and the corridor: draughts appear in the doorways and the extract above the range loses effectiveness. Valves distributed along the supply frame make it possible to deliver the air where it is needed.
Setting the direction has a second aspect. A stream aimed straight at the chef cools, but it mixes with the fumes rising under the hood and worsens their capture. The setting is best checked with smoke or a strip of paper: the fumes should go vertically upwards rather than spread out sideways.

They work on opposite sides of the circuit. The filter sits in the extract section and traps grease from the fumes, the valve is in the supply section and meters the fresh air let into the kitchen.
How should a polypropylene valve be washed?
It is taken off and washed by hand in warm water with detergent. The high temperatures of a commercial dishwasher and solvents are better avoided – the plastic may deform or go matt.
How many valves are there per hood?
That depends on the supply air flow rate and on the length of the frame they clip into. They are spaced evenly, and the final setting is adjusted after the installation has been started up.
