Hood filter – various models KP-FLI – how to choose the right one
The KP-FLI baffle filter for catering hoods is made of AISI-430 stainless steel. The part number covers several frame sizes, so the filter is selected to match the clear opening of a particular hood rather than one universal dimension.
AISI-430 is a chromium steel without nickel, which makes it magnetic – a magnet held against it immediately tells it apart from austenitic AISI-304. In contact with hot grease and typical degreasing agents it behaves well; the weak point of the grade is chlorides, that is salt and chlorine-based preparations.
What counts when ordering is not the size of the hood but the rail the filter sits in. You measure the clear width between the guides and the height of the seat, then check how many units fit side by side over the whole length. A few millimetres of clearance are needed so that the filter can be taken out with one hand when it is warm and slippery.

Ask a questionHow do you measure a filter for a hood that is already installed?
The safest way is to measure the old filter rather than the opening – frames have folded edges and the external dimension can be misleading. For a quotation you give the width, the height and the number of units that fit in the rail.
Is AISI-430 enough, given that the KP-FSI mesh is made of AISI-304?
For trapping grease and working in hot air, chromium is entirely sufficient. If the kitchen works with brines, fish or chlorine-based preparations, a version in the austenitic grade is worth considering.
Which programme should the filter be washed on, and how should it be dried afterwards?
A standard commercial dishwasher programme with a degreasing detergent is enough. The filter is left to dry standing upright, gutter down, so that water does not stay in the profiles. Chlorine-based preparations are better kept off the steel.
