Condensing units and refrigeration compressors

The compressor is the heart of the circuit, and a condensing unit is the compressor together with the condenser, the fan and the accessories on a common frame, matched and tested before dispatch. A compressor is designed for a specific refrigerant and evaporating temperature range: high, medium or low temperature, and the same unit in freezer duty delivers a fraction of the capacity it has in chilled duty. We match them to the refrigerant, the operating range and the capacity required, and for unusual conditions our technical advisers handle the selection.

How to choose

The compressor is chosen for the refrigerant and the evaporating temperature range

The first thing is the refrigerant. A compressor is designed for a specific refrigerant and its pressures – using a different one changes the capacity, the load and the lubrication. Moving to hydrocarbons such as R290 adds the question of explosion-proof electrical accessories.

The second is the evaporating temperature range: high, medium and low temperature. The same compressor delivers in freezer duty a fraction of the capacity it has in chilled duty – comparing models without stating the range makes no sense.

A condensing unit saves time: the compressor, condenser, fan and accessories arrive on a common frame, matched and tested. In series production it also means repeatability – fewer places where the assembly can differ from one unit to the next.
