A hand wash basin is a sanitary requirement in every kitchen, and the way it is operated decides whether staff do not carry contamination back onto their hands. A touchless version with a photocell removes from the procedure the moment of touching the tap with a dirty hand. For every item we give the bowl dimensions, the sheet thickness and the drain version, and the utility sink is listed separately, because it is for washing equipment, not hands.

How to choose

The basin is chosen for the way it is operated and for its place in the line

The way it is operated is not a matter of convenience but of hygiene. A basin with a tap worked by hand requires touching the fitting after washing – that is, touching what was touched a moment earlier with dirty hands. Operating with the knee, the foot or a sensor removes the problem, which is why it appears everywhere raw products are handled.

The second question is a set or a bowl on its own. A ready-made set comes with the tap, the trap and the fixings – installation is connecting water and drainage. A basin on its own leaves freedom in choosing the tapware, but the rest has to be put together.

The third thing is the tap hole: whether there is one, its diameter and its position. A basin without a hole is meant for wall tapware, and drilling one later in a finished bowl is possible but rarely looks good.

A utility sink is a separate category: a deep bowl for filling buckets and washing equipment, usually mounted low. It does not replace a hand wash basin and does not count as meeting that requirement.
